My Favorite Places: West Shore Theatre

West Shore Theatre

I've traveled the country and I've seen many, many movies in many, many theaters, but there is no theater I love more than West Shore Theatre, on Bridge Street in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The movies are second run, the prices are as retro as the theater itself and you always know the staff... because it's operated nightly by the same three people. It was in the West Shore Theatre that I ran screaming from my first film experience. I was three, the picture was Walt Disney's Snow White and the wicked queen was pushing her evil cackle and red apple on Snow. West Shore offers $2.50 Tuesdays and family matinees at 2:00 and 4:00 pm many weekends, with Friday and Saturday ticket prices at an easy $3.50. If you plan on seeing a flick on Sunday, Monday or Thursday, you can expect to shell out $3.00 for your ticket. Every Friday West Shore introduces two new films (unless popular demand warrants a second week), so keep your eye on the marquee as you drive by. Concession prices are also gloriously antique with a small popcorn ringing up at $1.50 and a small Coke also running the same. They have umpteen types of candy to chose from and they still serve their popcorn in buckets (Take that glossy paper bags!). Where else are you going to go and get admission, popcorn, candy, and soda for 8 bucks?!? And yes, it's West Shore Theatre, NOT West Shore 'Theater.' Now go check out West Shore. It's one of my favorite places. EVER.

Bridget Recommends: Thursday night showing, right side of the theater against the wall, the medium popcorn, a medium Coca-Cola (NOT DIET, DAMN IT! They didn't have Diet Coke in 1950!) and The Skybar.

  1. Anything has to be better than that place out in Progress. That was a total ripoff!
