Summit, Retailers Offer Fans Choices With New Moon DVD

With the release of the New Moon DVD just a month a way, retail outlets are competing for Twi-hard cash, offering up "exclusive" special editions of the film. It's no longer just a choice between Blu-Ray or standard DVD. Oh, no! Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes & Noble and Amazon are all offering up various versions of the movie with differing cover art, features, extras and bonus content. All of your favorite retailers are sponsoring pre-orders of the movie and you can expect to check-out for about $25 to $30, depending upon which version and format you chose. Clearly, your favorite Twilight expert, Bridget, is here to help you find which New Moon is right for you.

I'm about 99% sure I'm getting my copy of New Moon from Target. I purchased Target's exclusive version of Twilight last March, which was a 3 disc version that offered a third bonus disc that included ab fab cast interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. This March, Target is offering a three disc DVD "Deluxe Edition" of New Moon with a bonus collectible film cell. Each collector's film cell will be individually numbered and enclosed in a gold embossed 5x7 card. Each collector's edition DVD or Blu-Ray will contain one of 250 different New Moon images captured on actual film. The third bonus disc is said to contain deleted scenes, a closer look at our fave evil-doers the Volturi and an exploration of the music behind the movie. Target's exclusive deluxe edition DVD will run you $24.99 and the two disc Blu-Ray set, also with the wicked awesome film cell, is available for $29.99. Target's exclusive edition also boasts unique cover art. (Unfortunately for me, it's not my fave shot of K. Stew as Bella. There's not enough of her!) Target will also offer the standard two disc edition of New Moon on DVD and Blu-Ray, ringing up at $20.99 for DVD and $22.99 for Blu-Ray. I say, spend the extra 5 bucks for the third disc and the film cell. You can never have too much Bella and Edward. Oh, and that Jacob dude, too.

Not to be out "sparkled," Wal-Mart is offering its "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon on DVD for $24.96 and Blu-Ray for $29.96. Wal-Mart owns bragging rights as the only retailer offering a 7 minute sneak peek at the next installation of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Other bonus content included are cast interviews with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and New Moon author, Stephenie Meyer. You can take the "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon one step further and purchase the Wal-Mart only combo pack that includes a copy of the documentary DVD Twilight In Forks, an exploration of the town the Cullens and the Swans call home. This set will cost you $29.96. (The Twilight In Forks DVD in the singular sense sells for $12.96, but it only costs you an extra $5 when you purchase it with Wal-Mart's "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon.) I must confess that Wal-Mart's cover art is indeed my favorite, so I just might have to breakdown and buy a copy of this one, too. (Yes, I also have two different versions of Twilight on DVD. I had to have the Wal-Mart exclusive single disc copy last year, too. It's my "bedroom" copy.) Not only is there a fantastic shot of Kristen in full Bella, the cover itself is Lenticular. ("Lenticular, " kids, is fancy-talk for that really cool 3-D thing where you move the picture back and forth and it changes or something winks, waves or moves.) Another great Wal-Mart exclusive is free to-store shipping or you can ship it straight to your home for 97¢. This way you can avoid the mobs of sticky, giggly, obnoxious 12 year-olds. Like its competitor Target, Wal-Mart is also hocking the standard versions of New Moon on DVD and Blu-Ray. (BO-RING!)

Team Jacob REJOICE! Barnes & Noble has not forsaken you! If T-Lau is your cup o' tea, then you might want to check out the Barnes & Noble's two-disc edition of New Moon that comes with a dreamcatcher bag clip-keychain, reminiscent of the one Jacob gives to Bella in the film. This standard edition of New Moon with accompanying Quileute keepsake is priced at $24.47 and does not include an extra discs or special cover art. You can also order the "plain" New Moon DVD or Blu-Ray from Barnes & Noble.com and receive FREE shipping when you spend $25 or more. (The Blu-Ray version is $25.19. That means shipping is FREE!)

While they might not be boasting any ultimate, exclusive or special editions, we have to give a shout-out to Amazon.com. For, my fellow Twilighters, it was indeed Amazon who gave us the first glimpse at the New Moon DVD and Blu-Ray covers. They were also first to open up the New Moon pre-order. Amazon always has lots of great Twilight goods at low prices and we always love the FREE shipping with our purchases of $25 or more. If you need help reaching your free shipping, you might want to check out the newly released Twlight Scene It! for Nintendo DS or the uber cool new Twilight: the Graphic Novel, Vol. 1, which is set for release on March 16.

So, now that we've vamped it down for you, which version of New Moon are you making forever yours on March 20? Tell us! We wanna know! ('Cause we're nosy bastards.)

  1. UPDATE: So I ordered Walmart's "Ultimate Fan Edition" and Target's "Deluxe Edition." I can't wait until they arrive next month, with all their K. Stewy goodness!
