Vote for the car, vote for the CURE.

Okay, so I'm NOT a big fan of Nascar or racing, but this is a chance to bring recognition to a disease that is the most under publicized in America. A disease that is slowly killing me and a million other Americans, 90% of whom are women. Lupus. It's not just a punchline on House. Please take a moment to go vote for the "Lupus Car." I'm not asking for money.... All you have to do is click a button. They (my host of doctors) said I wouldn't make it to 30 and I'm almost there and (most days) I'd like to make it to 90. It's just a click to you, but it could mean a totally new world to ME. (And the million others.)

Target's Exclusive New Moon Sneak Peek

Like many of you, I've already ordered my New Moon DVDs. Yes. DVDs. As in plural. As in more than one. As in TWO. I've decided to order Target's 3 disc Deluxe Edition New Moon (with bonus collectible film cell) and Walmart's 2 disc Ultimate Fan Edition New Moon, that includes an Eclipse teaser. The New Moon DVD release might just be 23 days away, but for those of us who are jonesin' extra hard for a hit, Target gives up a sneak peek at a deleted scene and the New Moon DVD promotional trailer. (FYI, you have to click on "View trailer and exclusive content" set within the DVD.) Happy Thursday, kids! Don't say Bridget never gave you anything!

R. Pattz Fans: READY. SET. TIVO!!!

The marketing blitz for Remember Me begins next week in New York, which means it's time to soak up your Vitamin R, kids. Ladies (and gentlemen), you may want to set your Tivos and DVRs NOW, so that you don't miss out on Robert Pattinson's whirlwind tour of the NYC talk show circuit. Monday, March 1, R. Rob will jump over to ABC on Tuesday, March 2, and visit the lovely ladies of The View, with co-star Emilie de Ravin in toe, at 11:00 am eastern standard time. (Rob is a HOT TOPIC all his own!)

And if you need to have yourself a GREAT laugh (courtesy of Jimmy Fallon) and you LOVE Robert Pattinson, check out these great skits entitled Robert Is Bothered. HILARIOUS! Can't wait to see what Rob has to say about these when he meets up with Fallon next week!

Indulge Me

So, I'm still reeling in exctasy of K. Stew's BAFATA win last night, but also reeling in another fashion. PAIN. Lupus has once more united every joint in my body against me, in an evil conspiracy. Also in on the conspiracy, my nephew and my father who just don't like to allow me any kind of sleep. SO, posting today is simple. It's all about ME.

First, my birthday is just a few weeks away (March 14) and friends and family around the country have been asking what I want this year. I'm trying to make it easy on myself and my beloved(s) this year ('cause who knows when my new round of lupus treatment is actually going to start) and therefore I have put together a 2010 Birthday Wish List over at Amazon. I've chosen lots of things that I "wish" for as I blow out my candles this year. It's my fairly stereotypical blend of entertainment goods that keep me occupied when my disease process doesn't allow me out of bed.

Also, to answer another prominent birthday inquiry I've been receiving: NO, I'm not hosting any big bash or going anywhere special. I was hoping to vaca in LA and take a trip down to Disney Land on my big day, but it's just not possible right now. There's no group trip to the bars or clubs because, as of this moment, I cannot physically (or mentally) handle the heels-alcohol-stupid people combo. I plan on going to see Rob Pattinson's Remember Me on March 12 and K. Stew in The Runaways on March 19. That's pretty much the extent of my celebratory schedule this year. If you want to celebrate my birth, send me a book, toast a Starbucks in my honor or go check out what I am sure will be my two new fave films (I'm talking about Remember Me and The Runaways, of course).

Next, although it's not about ME, everyone wants to know about Diddy. My father did suffer a third stroke and was released from the hospital yesterday to HealthSouth, where he will begin his stint in rehab. (Physical rehab, that is. Although I'm sure he could probably use some of the Tiger Woods brand, too. Dirty old man.) As always, being the young and only child of an elderly man (and a VERY stubborn one at that) proves to be quite a trying experience for me. While physically he doesn't seem to have any deficits caused by the stroke (the existing deficits were courtesy of diabetic neuropathy, 5 MIs, CHF and strokes 1 and 2), there does seem to be some residual cognitive effects. Anyone who wants to visit Diddy please email me. He really enjoys the company and I REALLY enjoy a much needed break.

Finally, in my attempt to become more self-focused, selfish and self-centered, I'm becoming quite the self-promotional whore. This paragraph is no exception. I'd like you to go visit my MySpace page (it's private so you have to add me as a friend to see it), because I added some of my fave new songs to my profile AND because I miss how much easier MySpace is than Facebook. While I still can't navigate Facebook or edit my profile worth a damn, you can visit me there, too. AND please continue to visit me here at Token White Girl. I know it's still an upstart, but it means a lot to me, this stretching of the proverbial writing legs.

And while I'm not quite ready to dish on my current state of health (or lack thereof), but when I do you will all be the first to know. I just ask for thoughts of understanding, positive thoughts, and prayers. It's nothing anyone should taker personally, but I'm coping with A LOT, and most days it's just easier for me to cope alone. But I'm looking forward to having visitors at my new home.

LOVE YOU. MEAN IT!!!

- B

PS - Did I mention that K.Stew won a BAFTA Award?!?

Congrats On Your New BAFTA K. Stew!

Kristen Stewart, perhaps best known to most as Bella in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, took home The British Academy of Film and Televison Arts Orange Rising Star Award On Sunday night. The Orange Rising Star Award is the only BAFTA Award that is chosen by the British public, leading Stewart to credit her win to the large Twilight fanbase. Stewart was draped in a luminous white Chanel dress and thanked adoring Twilight fans and said hello to her family, stumbling through her acceptance speech in her own humble, awkward trademark style. Sigh. That's why we love you, K. Stew! Congratulations girl!

PS - Kristen, don't sell yourself short. Sure, you were in some really fantastic company, but there are those of us who know and love you for Em (MY FAVE!), Georgia, Tracy, Lucy and Martine. We know and love you above and beyond Bella. The award was WELL deserved, sister. Just sayin'. (*BLUSH*)

Almost Alice, Almost HERE!!!

If you're a black haired, black nail polished, gothy kinda girl like me, then you've probably already got March 5 marked on your New Moon calendar and alterna band tune alarm set on the BlackBerry. Really, March 5 should be a national holiday, for it is on this momentous Friday that Tim Burton returns his gloriously twisted vision to the silver screen with Alice In Wonderland. The man who brought us The Corpse Bride and Sweeny Todd: The Deamon Barber of Fleet Street brings Johnny Depp and his live-in love Helena Bonham Carter along (AGAIN!! YAY!!) to tell the classic tale of Alice In Wonderland in true Tim Burton style.

With a marketing blitz that rivals that of the Twilight and Harry Potter brands, Burton and Disney fans everywhere are grabbing up the goods from Hot Topic, Torrid and The Disney Store. But what are we-who-wear-too-much-black most excited about? THE MUSIC!!! Tuesday, March 2nd, original music inspired by the film hits the shelves and iTunes, with the full length LP Almost Alice. Almost Alice is an album chock full of wicked awesome artists that will make any rock fan drool. Seriously. Check out this track listing:
1. Alice Performed by Avril Lavigne
2. The Poison Performed by The All-American Rejects
3. The Technicolor Phase Performed by Owl City
4. Her Name Is Alice Performed by Shinedown
5. Painting Flowers Performed by All Time Low
6. Where's My Angel Performed by Metro Station
7. Strange Performed by Tokio Hotel and Kerli
8. Follow Me Down Performed by 3OH!3 featuring Neon Hitch
9. Very Good Advice Performed by Robert Smith
10. In Transit Performed by Mark Hoppus with Pete Wentz
11. Welcome to Mystery Performed by Plain White T's
12. Tea Party Performed by Kerli
13. The Lobster Quadrille Performed by Franz Ferdinand
14. Always Running Out of Time Performed by Motion City Soundtrack
15. Fell Down a Hole Performed by Wolfmother
16. White Rabbit Performed by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Also in the true Burtonesque spirit, long-time collaborator Danny Elfman has composed the score to Alice In Wonderland, which is also available beginning March 2 and is being billed as the film's official soundtrack. Elfman is also repsonsible for the music of several other Tim Burton projects that we adore, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. We Burton freaks here at Token White Girl recommend saving yourself some substantial change by ordering Almost Alice and Alice In Wonderland : The Score at Amazon or picking it up at Target next Tuesday. You can use the money you save to buy your ticket! (You'll have to sell a kidney on the black market for the popcorn and candy.)

Summit, Retailers Offer Fans Choices With New Moon DVD

With the release of the New Moon DVD just a month a way, retail outlets are competing for Twi-hard cash, offering up "exclusive" special editions of the film. It's no longer just a choice between Blu-Ray or standard DVD. Oh, no! Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes & Noble and Amazon are all offering up various versions of the movie with differing cover art, features, extras and bonus content. All of your favorite retailers are sponsoring pre-orders of the movie and you can expect to check-out for about $25 to $30, depending upon which version and format you chose. Clearly, your favorite Twilight expert, Bridget, is here to help you find which New Moon is right for you.

I'm about 99% sure I'm getting my copy of New Moon from Target. I purchased Target's exclusive version of Twilight last March, which was a 3 disc version that offered a third bonus disc that included ab fab cast interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. This March, Target is offering a three disc DVD "Deluxe Edition" of New Moon with a bonus collectible film cell. Each collector's film cell will be individually numbered and enclosed in a gold embossed 5x7 card. Each collector's edition DVD or Blu-Ray will contain one of 250 different New Moon images captured on actual film. The third bonus disc is said to contain deleted scenes, a closer look at our fave evil-doers the Volturi and an exploration of the music behind the movie. Target's exclusive deluxe edition DVD will run you $24.99 and the two disc Blu-Ray set, also with the wicked awesome film cell, is available for $29.99. Target's exclusive edition also boasts unique cover art. (Unfortunately for me, it's not my fave shot of K. Stew as Bella. There's not enough of her!) Target will also offer the standard two disc edition of New Moon on DVD and Blu-Ray, ringing up at $20.99 for DVD and $22.99 for Blu-Ray. I say, spend the extra 5 bucks for the third disc and the film cell. You can never have too much Bella and Edward. Oh, and that Jacob dude, too.

Not to be out "sparkled," Wal-Mart is offering its "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon on DVD for $24.96 and Blu-Ray for $29.96. Wal-Mart owns bragging rights as the only retailer offering a 7 minute sneak peek at the next installation of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Other bonus content included are cast interviews with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and New Moon author, Stephenie Meyer. You can take the "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon one step further and purchase the Wal-Mart only combo pack that includes a copy of the documentary DVD Twilight In Forks, an exploration of the town the Cullens and the Swans call home. This set will cost you $29.96. (The Twilight In Forks DVD in the singular sense sells for $12.96, but it only costs you an extra $5 when you purchase it with Wal-Mart's "Ultimate Fan Edition" of New Moon.) I must confess that Wal-Mart's cover art is indeed my favorite, so I just might have to breakdown and buy a copy of this one, too. (Yes, I also have two different versions of Twilight on DVD. I had to have the Wal-Mart exclusive single disc copy last year, too. It's my "bedroom" copy.) Not only is there a fantastic shot of Kristen in full Bella, the cover itself is Lenticular. ("Lenticular, " kids, is fancy-talk for that really cool 3-D thing where you move the picture back and forth and it changes or something winks, waves or moves.) Another great Wal-Mart exclusive is free to-store shipping or you can ship it straight to your home for 97¢. This way you can avoid the mobs of sticky, giggly, obnoxious 12 year-olds. Like its competitor Target, Wal-Mart is also hocking the standard versions of New Moon on DVD and Blu-Ray. (BO-RING!)

Team Jacob REJOICE! Barnes & Noble has not forsaken you! If T-Lau is your cup o' tea, then you might want to check out the Barnes & Noble's two-disc edition of New Moon that comes with a dreamcatcher bag clip-keychain, reminiscent of the one Jacob gives to Bella in the film. This standard edition of New Moon with accompanying Quileute keepsake is priced at $24.47 and does not include an extra discs or special cover art. You can also order the "plain" New Moon DVD or Blu-Ray from Barnes & Noble.com and receive FREE shipping when you spend $25 or more. (The Blu-Ray version is $25.19. That means shipping is FREE!)

While they might not be boasting any ultimate, exclusive or special editions, we have to give a shout-out to Amazon.com. For, my fellow Twilighters, it was indeed Amazon who gave us the first glimpse at the New Moon DVD and Blu-Ray covers. They were also first to open up the New Moon pre-order. Amazon always has lots of great Twilight goods at low prices and we always love the FREE shipping with our purchases of $25 or more. If you need help reaching your free shipping, you might want to check out the newly released Twlight Scene It! for Nintendo DS or the uber cool new Twilight: the Graphic Novel, Vol. 1, which is set for release on March 16.

So, now that we've vamped it down for you, which version of New Moon are you making forever yours on March 20? Tell us! We wanna know! ('Cause we're nosy bastards.)

Up In The Air: A Terminally 'Good' Movie

Any movie that can pull off a cameo from Young M.C. (BUST A MOVE!) is bound to be a good movie. Up In The Air is that good movie. (And yes, it really does house an appearance from Young M.C.) I'm no member of The Academy, so I'm not exactly sure WHY Up In The Air has earned so many Oscar nominations, but it was indeed a touching and poignant film. Oh, and one more thing. I have to confess that I'm not so big on the Clooney. Not so much. No. 'Haven't really been a big fan of his work since he filled the shoes of Dr. Doug Ross on ER. He's just another Irishman. Who looks like most of my cousins. Father's side. Having said that, I enjoyed George Clooney as Ryan Bingham.

Ryan Bingham, a terminal bachelor living in endless airport terminals, is likely not much of a "departure" for the chronic single guy, Clooney, but perhaps that's what pushes Clooney's perfomance forward. Ryan Bingham is a frequent flyer mile junkie who travels the country as a "termination specialist," who fires people for a living and goes out of his way to lead an uncluttered, detached existence. An existence that balances on the proverbial edge when his company seeks to cut all company travel in favor of a live video feed firing system developed by Bingham's young, idealistic co-worker, Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick).
The journey to save his job is long, dirtied and burdened with messy people that Ryan would rather not be weighing his "backpack" down with... sisters and a casual love interest, Alex (Vera Faminga), turned utterly and hopelessly complicated in a move that not only completely blindsides Ryan Bingham, but the audience as well. Bingham's character arc is better defined as a character "almost," because the precipice of change leads Ryan right back to the American Airlines cabin he boasts as "home." The films hosts characters whose lives are remarkably all Up In The Air, with everyone making a purposeful landing minus Mr. Bingham.
Once more, I don't know the checklist of components for Oscar Worthy, but Up In The Air is still a film worth its hour and forty minutes. It speaks to those still working to stay ahead of a rocky economy and those of us who find ourselves in those awkward transition periods that tend to make or break us. To quote Clooney as Bingham in full-on fire speak, "Anybody who ever built an empire, or changed the world, sat where you are now. And it's because they sat there [firing chair] that they were able to do it." If you have the opportunity to catch Up In The Air before it blows out of the theaters completely, do it. Jason Reitman probably needs another Bentley or something.

Up In The Air Oscar Nominations: Best Picture; Best Actor, George Clooney; Supporting Actress, Vera Farminga and Anna Kendrick; Director, Jason Reitman; and Best Adapted Screenplay.

My Favorite Things: K. Stew Necklace

I consider myself to be a fairly simple person. I'm an open book and it doesn't take much effort to get to know me. My 8 year old nephew says "Aunt Bridget, I know you so well! You're favorite color are pink and black, and you love Twilight and Hello Kitty and Kristen Stewart." Yeah. That about sums ME up.

So, color me shocked when my biological family does not know me. My framily (friends who are indeed my family) threw me a graduation party adorned in shades of pink, black, and New Moon with some twinkle lights thrown in for good measure. My biological family didn't even offer the party. They couldn't even be bothered to attend my graduation party. They don't get me. AT ALL. Therefore, I find it pretty damn gratifying when people who have spent weeks and not years with me, GET ME.

One of my ab fab clinical instructors, Mrs. April Coder, made me a necklace for graduation. It was a consolation prize for the award I didn't get from the institution itself. And this necklace is a gazillion times better than any academic award. EVER. I spent two clinical rotations with Mrs. Coder. That adds up to about 5 to 6 weeks, approximately 15 to 18 days total. She didn't need years to get me. Mrs. Coder fashioned pink and grey beads, which she handmade herself, on a silver chain, with a pendant in the center displaying pics of Kristen Stewart, accented with pink glitter, in the center. (Insert heavenly chorus of angels here:____________.) She even took the time to wrap it up in personally decorated pink and silver wrapping. FABULOUS!

I am still thrilled beyond belief that this necklace is MINE and was made just for ME. Someone actually took a minute to observe me and construct something that can simply be defined as "Bridget." The necklace itself fits my color scheme perfectly and I wear it with a gray lace trimmed cami, black cardigan, black khakis, and my fave pink, black, and gray Airwalk flats. My Kristen Stewart necklace is one of My Favorite Things in the whole wide world! And while I can't say it enough, I'll say it one for time, THANK YOU, MRS. CODER!!!!

Highly Favored

Date Night: K. Stew and T. Lau Hit The Oscars.

E! Online is reporting that Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are both presenting at The Academy Awards this year. In her endearingly awkward style, Kristen is already planning her wardrobe for the awards gala, “I’ve been looking at shoes,” she said. “I’m trying to pick shoes that I know I won’t fall down in.” We are now officially justified in spending 3 to 4 long, painful hours watching The Oscars on Sunday, March 7. The telecast kicks off at 8:00 pm eastern time, 5:00 pm on the west coast, and is being hosted jointly by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

My Favorite Places: West Shore Theatre

West Shore Theatre
317 Bridge Street
New Cumberland, PA 17070
717.774.7160

I've traveled the country and I've seen many, many movies in many, many theaters, but there is no theater I love more than West Shore Theatre, on Bridge Street in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The movies are second run, the prices are as retro as the theater itself and you always know the staff... because it's operated nightly by the same three people. It was in the West Shore Theatre that I ran screaming from my first film experience. I was three, the picture was Walt Disney's Snow White and the wicked queen was pushing her evil cackle and red apple on Snow. West Shore offers $2.50 Tuesdays and family matinees at 2:00 and 4:00 pm many weekends, with Friday and Saturday ticket prices at an easy $3.50. If you plan on seeing a flick on Sunday, Monday or Thursday, you can expect to shell out $3.00 for your ticket. Every Friday West Shore introduces two new films (unless popular demand warrants a second week), so keep your eye on the marquee as you drive by. Concession prices are also gloriously antique with a small popcorn ringing up at $1.50 and a small Coke also running the same. They have umpteen types of candy to chose from and they still serve their popcorn in buckets (Take that glossy paper bags!). Where else are you going to go and get admission, popcorn, candy, and soda for 8 bucks?!? And yes, it's West Shore Theatre, NOT West Shore 'Theater.' Now go check out West Shore. It's one of my favorite places. EVER.

Bridget Recommends: Thursday night showing, right side of the theater against the wall, the medium popcorn, a medium Coca-Cola (NOT DIET, DAMN IT! They didn't have Diet Coke in 1950!) and The Skybar.

K. Stew Talks Breaking Dawn... Two Films? 3-D?

In a press junket for The Yellow Handkerchief, which goes into limited release on February 26, Kristen Stewart put in her two cents on the fate of the upcoming fourth installment, Breaking Dawn, while speaking to MTV's The Rough Cut. Kristen "thinks" that filming for Breaking Dawn is set to begin in "November," which opens up 2010 for something that she doesn't have much of... free time! Check out the videos below to see where our ab fave homegirl K.Stew stands on the scandalous (trust me, in the world of Twilight these topics are indeed appropriately labeled as "scandal.") Breaking Dawn subjects of two films vs. one and Bella, Edward, Renesmee in 3-D. Sigh. K. Stew is SO DREAMY! We HEART her!

K. Stew... One Film or Two?
